I am not going to lie, I am not handling lockdown, quarantine, shelter-in-place or social distancing well … at all. The optimistic part of me feels like this is an amazing time to settle into deep thought, reflection, self-care and come up with solutions to solve the world’s problems. The realistic part of me is struggling to find the motivation to get up, get going, stay active and positive day-after-day.
Now that the reality is here, that these restrictions (and the threat that has imposed them) are not going away anytime soon, and definitely not in the next 30 days, it is the perfect time to put out a new challenge! One just special enough for April 2020, sure to be one of the strangest months ever, for all of us.
While we have plenty of excuses…the gyms are closed, grocery shopping is “dangerous,” pizza still delivers and Netflix streams 24/7, we also have plenty of opportunity to indulge in a little self care. We just have to stand up, dust off the cookie crumbs, take a shower, set some goals, and get to work on ourselves.
Are you ready? I am. Thank goodness the journey to wellness is ever evolving and it’s never to late for a fresh start. Today, we can commit to pay attention to, and to invest in our health, sanity and social graces during this period. And just as the optimistic side of me wants to believe, we can all come out of this stronger on the other side.
This challenge is very similar to the December self -care challenge, with just a few modifications considering our current circumstances. Below is a list of things you can do daily to maintain (or improve) your health, fitness and sanity during this challenging time.
Because you have nothing else to do – ha ha! I know that’s not true, but chances are you have less structure now than you’ve ever had in your life. I’ve been working from home since 2006 and self-employed since 2013. Daytime pajamas have been a thing for me for well over a decade. But even that lack of structure can’t compare to what we’ve got going on now. We have to nowhere to go and no one to meet. Literally. Our schedules are loose and it’s easy to setting into nothing-ness.
This challenge can give structure to your days and weeks. Will give you things to “schedule” and deadlines to follow. You can plan your self-care/sanity acts in your daily planner to fill up your old appointments. We can do more than just stay “busy” with this challenge. We can be intentional, active and even though we’re inside, we can move forward.
