The Best Alphabet Workout!

Oh my gawd, we are in the midst of the craziest time in history and per my post yesterday announcing the 30-Day Quarantine Challenge, I’m totally losing my mind (and my fitness).

So as I surrender to the reality that my gym, every yoga studio and small group fitness event is cancelled … indefinitely, I was struggling to stay focused, motivated and active. I saw one of these quick .jpgs of an alphabet workout and I LOVED the idea! But I wasn’t the hugest fan of the exercises listed.

What makes this the BEST alphabet workout?

Because I’ve been writing workouts for myself (and others) for years, I thought I’d take a stab at putting in my favorite body weight workouts. Some have a focus on cardio, some upper body, some lower and some core. So depending on which word you choose to spell, you could end up with a complete FULL body workout!

So here you go, my gift of infinite, anytime-anywhere workouts for you! Some of these require a little explanation, so see below the chart and I’ll work on some video demonstrations as well.

Quick Explanations the tricky Alphabet Workout moves:

  • A: Atomic Burpees. Like a regular burpee, but you sit back and sneak in a crunch. Here is a quick demo.
  • D: Down Dog-Elbow. Start in Down Dog position and pull your knee through to touch the same-side elbow. Here is a quick demo.
  • E: Explosive Push-Up. Also known as a Plyo Push-up, these are super advanced! Start where you’re comfortable and to from there, here are some details about this type of pushup.
  • G: Good Morning: This is a great move for the rear end and your low back. You can use a bar for added weight, or this exercise also works with just the movement and your body weight. Here’s a quick demo.
  • I: Inchworm Pushups: Start standing, straight leg bend to touch the ground and walk yourself forward to a high plank position, do a pushup and either walk your feed up to your hands or walk your hands back to your feet (depending on how much room you have). Here is a quick demo.
  • L: Leg Lifts: This is an ab exercise with a reverse crunch. Lay on your back, tuck your hands under your rear and lift your bum off the ground. Here is a quick demo.
  • N: Nice to Meet You: is my creative way of fitting in a Curtsey Lunge into the letter N. One of my favorite lunges ever! Here is a quick demo.
  • O: Overhead (arm) Circles: Fairly self explanatory, but here is a quick visual. I’m not sure why this video is 2 minutes, I only watched the first 20 seconds….
  • P: Pike Push-Up: These are amazing for the shoulders. Here is a quick demo.
  • Q: Quick Steps (Sprint): This is a cardio move. If you have room to run, sprint! If not, a step or stair is great to just step up and down as fast you can.
  • Y: Your Favorite: This can be anything your body is calling for. Rest, water break, more lunges, burpees, explosive pushups? It’s up to you and you get a full minute of it!
  • Z: Zig Zag Jump: Again, maybe self explanatory, but just in case. This is an explosive, cardio move and also good for body. With your feet together, squat and hop forward, but sightly to the right. Repeat, but slightly to the left. Repeat to the right and so on. Here is some more info.

If there are any more than aren’t clear, just ask! I’ll be working on my own demos for these as we move through quarantine as well 🙂
