I do think it’s aggressive to title this post: Cancer Fighting Smoothie Recipe. And of course, this smoothie alone won’t cure cancer. But diet plays such an incredible role in the treatment and prevention of so many cancers. I’ve recently had two close friends diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and it’s really scary. It’s shifted my focus on what I eat and what we cook dramatically.
I’ve long since considered food to be medicine. Antioxidants, polyphenols, fiber and so many more of the intricate compounds found in our plants work as a symphony to keep your body strong and your cells healthy. It’s not a fail safe, cancer is nasty and often does not discriminate. But research and treatments are only getting better and for the first time in decades, death rates for the most common cancers are on the decline.
While I’ll freely admit this cancer fighting smoothie recipe is no replacement for traditional therapy, it certainly can’t hurt. And at the very least — it’s DANG delicious! Especially during these sweltery Summer months.

Whether you follow a plant based or plant forward diet, a good plant based protein powder should be a staple in your pantry. A good one is an excellent way to top-off your daily protein needs and recover from exercise. And it also works like magic in gluten-free baked goods. Here are my top tips to selecting a protein powder that is best for you.
I’m biased, obviously. Which is why I created this breakfast blend to begin with. I feel it contains all the roots of good health and is the perfect way to start any day. I recently realized it’s also an AMAZING add to simple protein powder and fruit to make a super charged smoothie without having to scoop out ingredients from 8 different jars or packages. But if you don’t have my blend on hand, no worries! Here is the recipe and benefits of all the ingredients.
This is currently my absolute favorite smoothie fruit. It’s packed with vitamin C and about a dozen other nutrients that give it one heck of an antioxidant punch. Its specific polyphenols have been researched and evidence supports that they can actually reduce tumor growth. Mangos are also known to generally improve immunity, digestive, eye, skin and hair health. You can get fresh too, but frozen is so easy to work with and depending on harvesting methods, can hold the same (if not better) nutrient power.
I could write an entire post, actually, I could have an entire website dedicated to the benefits of Turmeric and it’s most active compound; curcumin. It’s one of the most well researched and well understood medicinal plants. It should come as no surprise that its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant properties help prevent and fight cancer. Preclinical studies demonstrate curcumin stops the growth of breast cancer cells in the laboratory. Whether or not this translates to humans hasn’t yet been proven. But upping your turmeric consumption through food certainly can’t hurt.
Such a strange ingredient for a smoothie, I know. But if you know anything about turmeric and curcumin, it’s that they’re tough to absorb. Which means it’s not really about how much you consume, but how much your body can use. Piperine, a compound in black pepper, improves the bioavailability of curcumin.
It’s been so hot this Summer, I was craving one of those frosty mango smoothies I used to get from Jamba Juice when I was a teenager. That was before I really understood nutrition and how just jamming a ton of fruit into the blender wasn’t really the best strategy for optimal health. This recipe is balanced, beautiful and tastes like a Summer dream. The fact that it’s loaded with high quality, cancer fighting nutrients is essentially, just a bonus.
And for me, these are super easy to pick because these are all staples in my Plant Forward Pantry. But even if your pantry isn’t stocked, these are all easy to find at your local market. And for being health food, they all come with a nice shelf life. Once you have them on hand, you can keep them there for moths to come. Which makes this smoothie recipe an easy one to toss together just about anytime.
If you try this smoothie, or have any questions about an anti-cancer diet or ingredients, don’t hesitate to reach out! Food is fuel. Food is medicine. And food is love. I’ll continue to research and develop anti-cancer recipes for the love and respect I have for my friends, and so many more out there fighting.
